The Chicago Police Department on Tuesday reunited a family with its beloved chihuahua, who went missing four years ago.
Calumet District Officers were on patrol when two people flagged them down. The pair said they found a dog wandering the streets in the city’s West Pullman neighborhood and were concerned for its safety.
Police then took the pup to the Animal Welfare League in the Chicago Ridge neighborhood, where staff discovered the pooch had an identifying microchip inside of him.
The dog’s name was “Chiquito” (Spanish for “Shorty”). He was reunited with his family at the 5th District Police Department.
The family said they hadn’t seen Chiquito since June 2012. According to ABC News, the pup was described as “in good health.”
